Everything heals through knitting.

Whether I have been:
Supporting my mom and sitting in waiting rooms during her previous cancer surgeries,
Pouring my appreciation and recognition of close friendships into a gift they can wear,
Getting over past relationships,
Sitting calmly, keeping my dad company during hospice duty, or
Bringing a bit of comfort and warmth to my aunt during her chemo treatments,
knitting has always been there.

If I have made something for you, I care about you. I may even love you.

This past month has been spent supporting my mom to find some answers to why she’s not been feeling well. During the stress of the journey to this answer, the sudden urge to go back to knitting came back to me. I asked my niece if she could take me to the local yarn shop and I picked up a project I could knit while spending time together with my mom, and a project which was simple enough I could continue with it, even when watching tv together or sitting in the hospital. My niece spotted an amazing purple colour for the yarn and once I picked up some tools, as my main set were back in the UK, I was ready to get started.

Then we found out it was terminal.

I immediately started thinking about how I could help and how to keep her comfortable as possible, and my mind went almost immediately to knitting. We’ve been told she’s going to be sensitive to cold, she’s going to lose hair, and she’ll be going through chemo treatments during the Autumn and Winter. I’ll make her a hat. We sat together and picked out the orange yarn. She wants a faux fur pom pom on top, anything you want Mom! It’s going to be the hardest project I’ve probably ever knit, just because I realise it may be one of the last things I knit for her.💔

I’m going to make her a hat with a similar pattern to the one I made her twin sister, when she was going through chemo but with very different colours. I know the yarn is exquisitely soft and in a super chunky wool, it’s going to be warm.
